How is the process before root canal treatment?

Before treatment commences the patient will usually be given a local anaesthetic. Meaning that  the treatment should be  painless and  no more unpleasant than having a filling. A small rubber dam is placed over the area,the dam isolates and keeps the  treatment area dry. 


What are the treatment stages?

Stage 1: Diagnosing the infected pulp. Stage 2: Removing the infected pulp. Stage 3: A new root canal filling is put in place. Stage 4:The tooth is restored.


What will happen if no treatment is given?

The consequence of neglecting root canal treatment  or leaving the problem untreated may result in losing the tooth or part of the jaw or  even lead to dental abscesses or a life threatening stroke,sepsis, or a heart attack.

Is pain felt during root canal treatment?

A local anaesthetic is administered prior to the treatment. Consequently no pain should be felt as the treatment area will be numbed. 


Does local anaesthesia needle hurt in root canal treatment?

There will be some discomfort when the injection is given, a tingling as the medicine wears off. There may also be slight bruising, bleeding or soreness in the injection area.


Things to consider after root canal treatment?

Refrain from biting directly on the tooth that has been treated until the tenderness has subsisted. Regarding food, avoid food  that may stick in your teeth. Avoid hot fluids and alcohol and avoid drinking with a straw.


Why is root canal treatment carried out?

Root canal treatment is required when dental  x-rays show that the tooth pulp has been damaged by a bacterial infection causing inflammation. The symptoms of a pulp infection include : pain when eating or drinking hot or cold food and drink.
