"What Should I Bring and Prepare Before My Dental Appointment in Fethiye?"

You've booked your flights, sorted your accommodation, and you're looking forward to finally getting your smile sorted. But before you travel, there are a few practical things worth knowing — small details that can make a big difference to how smoothly your first appointment goes.
At Fethiye Smile Dental Clinic, we want your experience to be as stress-free as possible from the moment you arrive. So here's our honest, straightforward checklist for patients travelling from the UK, Ireland and Scotland.
Bring Your Passport
This one sounds obvious, but it's worth mentioning. We ask all international patients to bring their passport to their first appointment. It's a standard requirement for patient registration and ensures everything is properly documented from the start.
Sort Your Payment Method Before You Travel
This is probably the most overlooked piece of advice we give — and the one that causes the most last-minute stress when it's ignored.
If you're planning to pay by card, please contact your bank before you leave home and let them know you'll be making a payment in Turkey. International card transactions — especially larger ones — are frequently flagged as suspicious by UK and Irish banks and blocked without warning. When this happens, you're sitting in our clinic, your treatment is ready to begin, and you're on hold with your bank trying to explain the situation from thousands of miles away. It's frustrating for everyone, and unfortunately it's very difficult to resolve quickly from abroad.
A two-minute phone call to your bank before you travel saves all of that. It really is that simple.
Make Sure You've Eaten Before Your Appointment
If treatment is scheduled for that day, please make sure you've eaten beforehand. Some patients assume they should fast before a dental appointment — this isn't necessary unless you've been specifically advised otherwise.
Coming in hungry, especially if you're nervous, can leave you feeling lightheaded or unwell during or after treatment. Have a proper meal, drink plenty of water, and arrive feeling settled.
Keep Taking Your Medications
This is important. Please do not stop taking any prescribed medication before your appointment unless your own doctor has specifically told you to do so.
We see patients who, with the best of intentions, decide to stop their medication before travelling because they assume it might interfere with treatment. In most cases, this is not only unnecessary — it can actually be harmful.
This applies especially to blood thinners and diabetes medications. Stopping these without medical supervision can have serious consequences for your health. If you take any of these medications and you're unsure whether they affect your treatment, the right thing to do is contact us in advance. We'll advise you properly, and if anything needs to be adjusted, we'll coordinate with you before you travel — not on the day of your appointment.
As a general rule: take your medications as normal, bring a list of everything you're currently taking, and let us know about any health conditions during your consultation. The more we know in advance, the better we can look after you.
When in Doubt, Just Ask
If you have any questions before your trip — about what to bring, what to expect, or anything else — please don't hesitate to reach out via WhatsApp.
We're always happy to help, and we'd much rather answer your questions before you arrive than have you turn up unsure about anything.
We look forward to welcoming you to Fethiye.
