How to Read a Turkey Dental Quote: The UK Patient's Guide to Hidden Costs

You've sent your photos to a few clinics and the quotes are back. One is noticeably cheaper than the rest. Tempting — but here's the uncomfortable truth that no one says out loud: the headline number on a WhatsApp message is not always what you'll actually pay. The difference between a fair quote and a misleading one isn't usually the price of the implant. It's everything around it. This guide shows you exactly how to read a Turkey dental quote, what should already be inside it, and the hidden costs that catch UK patients out.

First: what a complete quote should already include

A transparent, all-inclusive quote should cover your entire journey, not just the surgery. Before you compare prices, check that each quote contains all of the following:

  • Consultation and 3D imaging (CBCT / panoramic scans)

  • The treatment itself — every implant, crown, veneer or bridge, with the brand named

  • The final restoration, not just the temporary one

  • Any planned extractions of teeth that need removing first

  • Medications (antibiotics, painkillers) and a night guard where relevant

  • Airport transfers and accommodation, if it's sold as a package

  • Aftercare and follow-up coordination, including once you're home

If two quotes look very different, the cheaper one is often cheaper because items on this list have been left out — and added back later.

The hidden costs that catch people out

Here are the extras that most commonly appear after a patient thinks everything is settled. None of these are scams in themselves; the problem is when they aren't mentioned upfront:

Bone grafting. If you don't have enough bone to hold an implant, a graft may be needed. A good clinic assesses this from your CT scan before quoting, not after you've arrived.

Sinus lift. Sometimes required for upper-jaw implants. Again, this should be flagged at the planning stage from your imaging.

Extractions. If you still have teeth that need removing, ask whether removal is included. At some clinics it is; at others it's added on.

Material upgrades. This is the big one. A quote based on acrylic teeth will be lower than one based on zirconia or porcelain. Both have their place, but you should know which one your price is based on — and what the upgrade involves.

Temporary restorations. For two-stage treatments, the teeth you wear between placement and final fitting. Check they're in the quote.

The second trip. Implant cases usually need two visits, months apart. The flights and accommodation for that second trip are a real cost that headline quotes quietly ignore.

Sedation. If you want sedation beyond local anaesthetic, confirm whether it's included or extra.

Medical travel insurance. Standard holiday insurance generally will not cover you if you're travelling specifically for treatment. You'll need a dedicated medical travel policy, and if a complication arises and you only have a standard policy, you may not be covered.

Add these up and a quote that looked like the cheapest can quietly become the most expensive.

Red flags: when a quote should worry you

Some signs that a quote — or a clinic — isn't being straight with you:

  • A price that's dramatically lower than everyone else's. That gap has to be made up somewhere. Usually it's cheaper materials, unbranded implants, or items left off the quote.

  • Unbranded or vague implants. If a clinic won't name the implant brand (Straumann, Nobel Biocare, Osstem and similar), be cautious. Unknown "local" brands can be impossible to service in the UK later.

  • No treatment plan before a deposit. A reputable clinic gives you a written plan and itemised quote before asking for money.

  • Pressure to decide fast. "This price is only good today" is a sales tactic, not a clinical position.

  • No mention of aftercare. What happens if something needs attention once you're home? A good clinic has an answer.

  • No dental passport. You should leave with a document listing the exact brand and size of every implant placed, so any future dentist can service your work.

The questions to ask before you pay a deposit

Copy these and send them to any clinic you're considering:

  1. Is this quote all-inclusive? What exactly does it cover, line by line?

  2. Which implant / crown / veneer brand is included at this price?

  3. Based on my X-ray or CT, do you anticipate any bone grafting, sinus lift or extractions — and what would those cost?

  4. Is the price based on acrylic or zirconia? What does upgrading cost?

  5. How many trips will I need, and is the second trip's cost reflected anywhere?

  6. What aftercare do you provide once I'm back in the UK?

  7. Will I receive a dental passport documenting my implants?

How a clinic answers these tells you almost everything. Clear, specific, written answers are a good sign. Vague or evasive ones are a warning.

How we do it at Fethiye Smile

We'd rather lose a patient to an honest quote than win one with a misleading one.

Before you pay anything, we assess your X-ray or CT scan and send a written, itemised treatment plan that names brands, includes your final restoration, and flags anything — like grafting or extractions — that your specific case might need. If something could add to the cost, you'll know before you book, not after you land. No surprise line items, no pressure, no "today only" deadlines.

That's what Smiles by the Sea means to us in practice: a clear price you can trust, and a clinic that treats you like an informed adult.

Frequently asked questions

Why are Turkey quotes so much lower than UK ones in the first place? The saving is structural — lower clinic rent, local staff wages, and high patient volume — not cheaper implants. Established clinics use the same brands as UK practices. The hidden-cost issue is separate: it's about which clinics are transparent, regardless of country.

Is the cheapest quote ever the right choice? Rarely. The cheapest headline price is often the least complete. Compare like for like — same brands, same materials, same inclusions — and the picture usually changes.

What's the single most important thing to check? Whether the quote is genuinely all-inclusive and names the brand and material. Those two details explain most price differences between clinics.
